Species Interaction
My organism is a consumer and carnivore. You could call them second order consumers or first order carnivores. They are meat eaters and their diet consists of a wide variety of prey items. Therefore, their niche in the ecosystem that they live are to consume animals and keep the biomass balanced. Hyenas can even be considered scavengers because they feast on dead animals in their biomes.
Talking about the "moving up" of energy in a food pyramid simply means the feeding level.
Starting from the bottom, energy moves up from one level to the next because
1) producers bring energy from nonliving sources into the community
2) primary consumers such as bugs eat the producers, which makes them herbivores.
3) bigger animals such as zebras, giraffes, and gazelles (in this case) eat the bugs.
4) finally, the top carnivores, lions, cheetahs, and hyenas eat those animals
causing them to have the greatest amount of energy.
